Orthodontics for Teens and Preteens in Edmonds, WA
The teenage years are the most common time to undergo orthodontic care. This is for two reasons: 1) Growth and development of the facial bones can be a great benefit in helping to correct bite issues and 2) Most teenagers have a minimum number of large dental restorations allowing the orthodontist to position their natural teeth in the most ideal functional and esthetic position. These two factors allow for a more predictable treatment outcome meaning your child will have the best treatment possible and have the rest of their lives to enjoy it!
When is a good time to start?
Treatment is usually started once the vast majority of the permanent teeth have grown in. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that patients are seen by an orthodontist by age 7 to evaluate developing dental concerns but comprehensive orthodontic treatment involving all of the adult teeth is usually initiated around age 12 or 13.
What are treatment choices for teens and preteens?
Today, teenagers have many choices concerning how the teeth are straightened and the bite is corrected. In addition to traditional metal braces, Dr. Pagan offers clear braces (which are actually ceramic, tooth-colored braces) as well as Invisalign® Teen.
